Gaia Photo Presentation
I have a photo presentation called Gaia’s Gifts which celebrates the beauty, complexity and diversity of some of the living things with which we share the planet. As a hobby photographer, I am excited to share my deep appreciation for the natural world through some of my images and experiences. My photographs have appeared in the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s magazine Canadian Wildlife, their children’s magazine Wild, and the CWF Calendar. They have also been on exhibit at Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Biosphere Museum In Montreal, celebrating the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity. In future, should you be looking for a guest speaker, I would be happy to visit your Club or Organization.
Gaia was the Greek Earth goddess who emerged from Chaos and created the Mountains, Sea and Sky. We know her as Mother Earth. The Gaia Hypothesis is a book written by Dr. James Lovelock, a British scientist working for NASA in the 1970’s in which he describes the Earth as a self-sustaining organism, providing and maintaining the conditions that support life. Both of these concepts inspired my choice of "Gaia's Gifts" as the title for this presentation.
I have shared this presentation with many Naturalist Clubs in southern Ontario, Horticulture Societies, and numerous Environment and Community groups. I have twice been the opening speaker for the Bruce Peninsula Orchid Festival, and have also led wildflower photography workshops at the Festival, and for the Bruce Trail Conservancy. I am a member of both Waterloo Region Nature and Owen Sound Field Naturalists and share my time between home in Kitchener, Ontario and our cottage near Tobermory on the beautiful Saugeen Bruce Peninsuala.
Ideally, the presentation requires a little over an hour, plus a bit of time at the end for questions or discussion. If this is something you think would be of interest to your members, I would be happy to talk further with you. You can email me at [email protected]
To give you an idea of content, I have created a two minute video preview of the Gaia slideshow (without music) on YouTube. Should you visit the YouTube site, I would recommend changing the Quality setting from the default of 780p to 1080p HD for best viewing! Enjoy…
